SLA Battery-Powered Electric Wheelchairs | Motorised Wheelchairs

Our sealed lead-acid (SLA) battery-powered electric wheelchairs use dry, non-spillable, non-lithium batteries with very low fire risk. SLA technology is trusted by occupational therapists (OTs) and users who prioritise safety and peace of mind over portability. These wheelchairs are also a practical choice for users who rarely need to lift or transport their PMA.

SLA motorised wheelchairs have been used in Singapore for decades without a single fire incident reported. Unlike lithium batteries, SLA batteries are not prone to thermal runaway and use non-flammable electrolytes that do not act as fuel in the event of a malfunction.

Other advantages of SLA electric wheelchairs include:

  • Stability: Their heavier frames provide added stability, especially on uneven paths and outdoor terrain.
  • Strength: SLA wheelchairs generally use steel frames, which are stronger and more durable, making them suitable for daily use and repeated transfers.
  • Affordability: SLA wheelchairs are typically more affordable than their lithium counterparts due to simpler battery systems and stronger—but lower-cost—frame materials.
  • Lower Maintenance Costs: SLA batteries are more affordable to replace, resulting in lower long-term ownership costs.

However, if light weight and portability are critical factors, lithium battery-powered motorised wheelchairs are the most feasible choice.

All our electric wheelchairs are compliant with Land and Transport Authority (LTA) 2026 rules and can be legally used on public paths in Singapore now and in the future. Unlike mobility scooters, motorised wheelchairs can be used without the need for medical certification.
