Motorised Wheelchair Trainer — Support

A training aid that helps people learn the controls, manoeuvres and spatial awareness needed to operate a motorised wheelchair — before and between hands-on sessions.
This simulator supplements physical training; it does not replace it. Every wheelchair handles differently, and nothing replaces supervised practice with a qualified trainer or therapist.
Where to get it

What you need
- The app runs in landscape, so turn your phone sideways.
- Sound is helpful but not required — collisions also flash red on screen.
- No internet connection is needed. The app works entirely offline.
Common questions
The lessons are locked. Lessons unlock in order, so each one builds on the last. Finish the lesson before it to open the next. A therapist demonstrating a specific manoeuvre can open everything at once with Settings → Lessons → All unlocked; this does not mark anything as complete.
I drive with my left hand. Settings → Driving hand → Left hand. The controls move to the left of the screen and the coach panel to the right.
The joystick is too small, or too large. Settings → Joystick size. Smaller suits a stick-on thumb control; larger is easier to hit.
Can I change the language? Yes — English, Chinese and Malay, under Settings → Language. You are asked once when you first open the app, and you can change it at any time.
Where can I see how much practice has been done? Training Record, on the main menu. It shows each lesson’s sessions, whether it was passed, how many attempts that took, and the time spent — plus the total across every lesson. This stays on the device.
Privacy

When to Choose a Lithium PMA
Lightweight lithium battery-powered PMAs are ideal when the device needs to be folded or carried frequently. Common use cases include:
- Transporting the PMA by car
- Bringing the PMA on a plane
- Carrying the PMA over high obstacles such as a flight of steps
When to Choose an SLA PMA
If weight is not a key concern, sealed lead-acid (SLA) battery-powered PMAs may be the better option. Key advantages include:
- Much lower fire risk compared with lithium PMAs
- More stability due to heavier weight and a lower centre of gravity
- Greater power and capability when handling obstacles such as low kerbs and MRT train-to-platform gaps
