According to a report by Mediacorp Channel 8 News on 8 December 2025, the requirement for mobility scooter users to obtain an Assessment for Mobility Scooter (AMS) certification — initially planned for implementation in the first quarter of 2026 — has been postponed to mid-2026.
The regulation was initially proposed to require all non-subsidised mobility scooter purchasers to undergo a doctor’s evaluation and obtain a medical certificate before using the device. Those purchasing their mobility scooters under subsidy schemes would be considered automatically certified.
The delay is due to the government needing more time to amend the relevant legislation, as well as its intention to provide users, caregivers, and retailers with a longer transition period.
Authorities emphasised that the delay does not mean the requirement will be cancelled — the new rules will still be introduced, and the public is advised to await further updates during this transition period.
