According to a report by CNA, some Personal Mobility Aid (PMA) retailers have increased prices by up to S$300, or around 10%, following the implementation of new regulations on 1 June. Retailers cited higher compliance costs, additional administrative requirements, and the need for extra manpower as factors contributing to rising operating expenses and a more time-consuming sales process.
Despite these challenges, retailers reported that sales have begun to recover as consumers gain a clearer understanding of which mobility devices comply with the updated regulations.
Warren Chew, founder of ELFIGO Mobility, shared that the new requirements have added approximately 15 to 30 minutes to the processing time of each mobility scooter order. Much of this additional time is spent collecting required information, such as NRIC details, and assisting customers who encounter difficulties with Singpass login and verification processes.
