On 30 April 2026, an online article listing the “Top 5 Cheapest Electric Wheelchairs in Singapore” included the ELFIGO JRWD704 and stated that its auto-brakes do not function when the battery is turned off.
This statement is INCORRECT.

In this article, we explain how the braking system works and provide a demonstration video showing the actual behaviour of the wheelchair when powered off and with the batteries removed.
Demonstration: Auto-Brakes Remain Engaged Without Battery Power
The video below shows a physical test of the ELFIGO JRWD704 braking system.
During the test:
- the electric wheelchair is driven up a slope then switched off
- both batteries are removed
- the chair remains stationary
- the electromagnetic brakes stay engaged, even when parked on a slope.
This confirms that the braking system continues to function even when the motorised wheelchair has no battery installed.
How the ELFIGO JRWD704 Braking System Works
The ELFIGO JRWD704 uses an electromagnetic braking system designed to engage automatically when power is not applied to the motors.
This means:
- brakes engage when the joystick is released
- brakes remain engaged when the wheelchair is switched off
- brakes remain engaged when the batteries are removed
This is a standard safety feature used in many powered wheelchairs to prevent unintended movement.
Why This Clarification Matters
Braking performance is one of the most important safety features of any motorised wheelchair.
Incorrect information about safety systems can cause unnecessary concern for users and caregivers. For this reason, we conducted and published the demonstration shown above so customers can verify the behaviour directly.
We encourage anyone with questions about the JRWD704 braking system to contact us or visit us to test the wheelchair in person.
Our Commitment to Safety and Transparency
At ELFIGO, product safety and accuracy of information are extremely important to us.
If you would like to learn more about how the ELFIGO JRWD704 works, or see the braking system demonstrated in person, our team will be happy to assist you.
